What is Anticipatory Grief?

Summary

Anticipatory grief can occur before a loss actually happens. Survivors may experience fears about losing financial stability, loss of emotional security, loss of companionship, loss of future dreams and hopes that they shared with the deceased.

Before their death, patients and their caregivers may experience fears about future losses including, loss of independence, loss of role as family provider, loss of future plans and dreams.
