Guidelines for Deep Dry Wound Care

Goals

• To fill dead space
• To maintain moist wound surface and protect.

Treatment

Obtain a physician order:

1. Use Standard Precautions
2. Clean wound with Normal Saline or with a Dermal Wound Cleanser for infected wounds.
3. (Follow manufacturer instructions if using a Dermal Wound Cleanser.)
4. Pat dry
5. Hydrate with a hydrogel
6. Cover with foam dressing (product examples include Polymem or Allevyn)
7. Change every 3-7 days
8. Document per agency protocol
